               Project Aluminum Cans

This volunteer's horse trailer does double-duty when she takes it
collecting the aluminum cans from our donation bins, which are
located at the shelter, The Hut on Hwy 27 S and at the Co-op feed
mill. Rain, snow, wind are no deterrent to this intrepid lady when
she makes her rounds! We add a few pots and pans also that don't
sell at the thrift store for one reason or another. This fund raiser
goes all year around and we look at it this way. If those dollars are
used to spay even a few dogs and cats it means literally hundreds fewer homeless puppies
and kittens. So every effort is worth while and important when viewed in those terms!

Fill 'em up folks! We thank you.

Our bins are located in several areas around Hayward and there is one at the shelter too.
They were built by one of our volunteers, of course, and are utilized by the generous citizens
of our little city and visitors as well. We are very grateful to all who take the time to bring their
cans. Your help makes a difference!

The Northwoods Humane Society Shelter is located East of Hayward on Hwy. 77 at O'Brien
Hill Road.

Tucker written by his new family

Tucker is a black and tan German Shepherd cross who first
came to the shelter as a tiny puppy. He soon developed
symptoms of demodectic mange, a potentially serious parasitic
skin disease. This necessitated periodic dipping with a
mitacide not normally used on such young dogs due to potential
side effects.
In time he was cured and began to grow quickly. He loved to run
and play with his friend Sweets, another shelter dog. They would
be let out together so they could run around and around in the big
fenced play yard.
Tucker became a large, physical pup with lots of vitality. People weren't interested in
adopting such a big bundle of energy. He also had a tendency to grab arms, shirt tails and
so on with his mouth. This was not good! We decided Tucker needed a family and adopted
him in early 1998.

Tucker's habit of nipping and strongly grabbing arms was easily corrected. He has become
a jolly, happy-go-lucky member of our pack. He is a gentle soul. Our cats immediately liked
him and he liked them. He has no alpha tendencies and easily gets along with everyone.
Tucker is very protective of new additions to our family, making sure the others behave well
around the newcomer. He likes our new guinea pig and rabbit although he probably thinks
they're mighty funny looking cats.
Tucker loves to ride in our truck and go for long walks. He is very well mannered on a leash.
He now weighs 137 pounds, by far the largest dog we've ever had! He's beautiful and we
love him.

Tucker and Pansey share a rare quiet moment.
