Thrift Shop:
Monday-Saturday-10AM-4 PM           
Pricing is done Tuesdays, help is needed.  Call Dick Langton at 634-2426.
Volunteers to work at the Thrift Shop also needed, especially weekends.

NHS Shelter Committee  Meetings held the first Monday of each month
at the NHS Shelter at 10 a.m.
NHS Newsletters will be published and mailed in May and November of
each year.
NHS Thrift Shop is open Monday thru Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
September Thru May – Summer months the shop will be open 7 days a
week.
Yardsales dates to be announced at a later date.


 



Ritter (written by his new family)

What can we say about Ritter? We immediately called
him an angel, the likes of which we've never known.

Ritter came to the shelter soon after it first opened along with his sister....two young puppies.
The female was adopted right away, leaving Ritter. During the initial Open House at the shelter
many people saw Ritter and asked about adopting him. But he was being held for an individual
who wanted to adopt him but couldn't take him home right away. When this person changed
his mind Ritter was left without his potential home. (Because of this situation the Northwoods
Humane Society changed some policies and now have what is known as the Ritter Rule)

Ritter grew and grew at the shelter, becoming a pretty
big boy. Everyone loved him but no one would take him
home. My wife and I volunteer at the shelter. Every dog
who, at its turn in the play yard, would bolt out the door to
run like crazy. But not Ritter....he would stop and put his
paws on Sandy and look into her eyes trying to
communicate something.

Finally, Sandy began to dream about him at night and we knew he should come home with us.
Ritter became an easy addition to our "pack". Our cats love him because of his gentleness. He
loves to travel and has made many trips to Duluth and Eau Claire.

Ritter has friends everywhere and continues to make new ones. Everyone loves him. He is so
gentle and non-aggressive that he has been used by shelter staff to help evaluate
temperament in new arrivals. In this small contribution perhaps he's helped some other dogs.

Ritter is the most perfect dog we've ever known: kind, affectionate, gentle and beautiful. We're
prejudiced though. But then maybe not; others who know him say essentially the same thing.
Help the Humane Society earn money!!  Go "Green" at home! Switch your
home to economically priced "Green" products and enjoy the benefits of
better heath & wellness while helping the NHS earn monthly income!
