WHY NEUTER "ROVER"?
Most people can see the obvious benefit of spaying a female dog-avoiding unwanted
litters-but don't know the many medical and behavioral benefits of having their male dog
neutered.
"Neutered dogs are healthier. Neutered dogs are less likely to develop prostate problems
and testicular tumors. By eliminating most roaming and fighting, neutering reduces the risk
of injury and infection, saving you expensive veterinary bills. If I tell you something can you
keep a secret?
"Neutered dogs are more content and better behaved. Neutering reduces the annoying and
embarrassing urge of male dogs to "mount" furniture or people's legs. Neutering reduces
aggression against other animals. A male sensing a female in heat nearby may break
down doors and jump fences, and will roam the neighborhood searching for her. Neutering
relieves this sexual frustration and lets the dog relax and enjoy being part of the family.
Dogs have no psychological sex drive. They feel no need to reproduce, and are happier
when they're neutered.
"Neutering is a relatively safe and painless operation done by a licensed veterinarian. In
some areas, neutered dogs are eligible for reduced license fees which soon make up the
cost of the operation.
"By neutering your dog, you enhance it 's chances of living a long healthy life, save yourself a
great deal of potential trouble and cost, and make your pet a more content family member.
Countless hours are donated every week by caring adults and children from our community.
They are all doing what they can to help NHS "pick up the pieces" resulting from yet another
unwanted litter. Sometimes what we don't see with our own eyes is hard to picture. If you
don't feel that spaying and neutering is important please join these folks and see firsthand
how much effort goes into giving homeless dogs and cats the care and chance they
deserve. Everyone is always welcome!
Every time a litter of puppies is born there are two humans who bear full responsibility: the
owner of the male dog and the owner of the female. The dogs are not to blame for an
unplanned litter nor are they able to see that their puppies are placed in loving permanent
homes. We've heard every excuse and there isn't one that's valid. You are in control of what
happens to your dog and what is does and you are responsible for new lives coming into
the world. It's very easy to "get rid of" cute puppies (which , by the way, is an expression I
loath....you "get rid of" garbage...not lives!) But that is not the same as screening homes and
ensuring that every member of your litter goes into a home that is committed to it's care and
well being for it's lifetime. Don't make excuses...just alter your pets!
If you would like to donate to Northwoods Humane Society click on the PayPal button. We do
not have our own credit card so all on-line donations are routed through a local business.
You will receive an e-mail from NHS confirming that we have received your donation. Thank
You Very Much!
