"I talk to him when I'm lonesome like, and I'm sure he understands.
When he looks at me so attentively, and gently licks my hands;
Then he rubs his nose on my tailored clothes,
but I never say naught thereat,
For the good Lord knows I can buy more clothes,
but never a friend like that!"

Dog Training Evenings
For information call 634-5394.
These evening classes are for both owned dogs (and their owners!) who are having
some problems with basic training and for shelter dogs who have either a volunteer or
staff handler. They are provided free of charge by our volunteer trainer one night a week.
We know from experience that too many dogs lose their homes simply from lack of very
basic training. It can make all the difference in the world for both dog and owner.
This is our beautiful new pavilion, built in the
summer of 2000 as a memorial to a caring, animal
loving young woman who left us all too soon after a
long struggle with leukemia. Her parents donated
this facility and it has been used many times already.
Our training evenings take place here and our
Walk for Pets was held here several years, too. Mandy would have loved this place and
we remember her every time we use it.
If you are feeling frustrated by some aspect of your dog's behavior please think about
attending one of these very relaxed and informal evenings. The emphasis is on very
basic good canine citizen training. It's very easy to humanely teach your dog not to jump
on people or to walk without pulling on the lead. Once you understand how to
communicate your wishes to your dog and then praise, praise, praise you'll be amazed
at what good pupil you have! Dogs want very much to please us....they just have to learn
what pleases us.
A class consists of both owned dogs and dogs who are in our care. Owners are learning
along with their dogs and we've had nothing but positive comments from folks who have
participated. Somehow, our volunteer trainer manages to get in some one on one time
with everybody who comes.
