" A dog reflects the family life. Whoever saw a frisky dog in a gloomy family, or a sad
dog in a happy one"? ~Sherlock Holmes

How and Where to Report a Lost or Found Pet

At this time in Sawyer County all found/stray dogs must be taken to the Sawyer County
Dog Pound. The Humane Society shelter cannot accept stray dogs. If you choose to
hold the dog and try to find the owner please consider that you are taking on a project
that entails some responsibilities. There is no way a frantic owner can possibly know
where to look for their dog unless you make every effort to make the information
public. That includes newspaper ads, posters, and radio. Be aware also that if you
keep the dog for 7 days the pound will consider the dog yours and will not take it.

Sawyer County Dog Pound: 634-5139
If the pound is closed: 634-4858
Pet Line radio ads: 634-4836

Stray cats are not provided for at the pound at this time so they must come to the
shelter. Arrangements must be made in advance of bringing an animal in as it's very
rare not to have every cage filled and a waiting list. 634-5394

If you have lost a pet, time is of the essence. Be sure to report to the numbers above
and be as detailed as you can be when describing the animal and the area in which it
was lost.

Newspaper ads, free radio ads and posters are important also. Your pet is far more
likely to be returned to you if it is wearing identification...cats included! Be sure to
follow all leads. Dogs can travel incredible distances as can frightened cats.
