Trainer Cindi McGrath offers workshops free to shelter adopted dogs, although donations to the shelter are more than welcome. All others are welcome for a minimum $25 donation to Northwoods Humane Society. Workshops focus on teaching nice manners on-leash, attention & recall, along with other practical behaviors. Individual questions are answered and training troubles resolved during these fun and informative workshops. Upcoming workshops will be posted to our calendar and Facebook. Follow NHS on Facebook or Cindi’s "This Way Canines" Facebook page for postings.
Lost & Found
We update often but if you have just found a dog, please call all of the following numbers immediately. At this time in Sawyer County all found/stray dogs must be taken to the Sawyer County Dog Pound. The Humane Society shelter cannot accept stray dogs. If you choose to hold the dog and try to find the owner please consider that you are taking on a project that entails some responsibilities. There is no way a frantic owner can possibly know where to look for their dog unless you make every effort to make the information public. That includes newspaper ads, posters, and radio. Be aware also that if you keep the dog for 7 days, the pound will consider the dog yours and will not take it. We have many visitors to our area and often they don't know where to report a lost dog, so they may have called any of the following places.
Note: The Sawyer County Dog Pound does not take in stray cats. The NHS shelter is always full and it is best to call ahead to see if there is room for a cat you have found.
If you have lost a pet, time is of the essence. Be sure to report to the numbers listed and be as detailed as you can be when describing the animal and the area in which it was lost.
